Our Story

We started Expecting Better because we saw the same pattern, over and over in the clients and families we care for. They were doing everything “right” — reading books, taking classes, following advice — but still felt unprepared for the mental and emotional realities of pregnancy and postpartum. As midwives, and now with one of us working as a therapist, we knew we could offer something more. We wanted to create a space where emotional health is just as important as physical health and where parents feel truly supported and empowered to navigate the road ahead.

Hannah Howell

Registered Provisional Psychologist & Registered Midwife (Inactive)

With years of experience supporting birthing families both physically and emotionally, Hannah now works as a provisional psychologist specializing in perinatal mental health. She’s passionate about helping parents understand their emotions, feel less alone, and develop strategies that actually work in real life.

Taryn Lynkowski

Registered Midwife & Former Teacher

An experienced midwife with a warm, down-to-earth approach, Taryn has guided hundreds of families through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. While Taryn's work is grounded in evidence-based practice, she believes that support and connection are essential to caring for people as they navigate one of life's biggest transitions.

Our Core Values

We designed Expecting Better with our own clients in mind, bringing the values that guide our practice into this course. We want everyone who participates in the Expecting Better course to feel welcome, informed, and supported no matter where they are on their journey through pregnancy and new parenthood.

  • Evidence-based information

  • Empathy and compassion

  • Mental health is health

  • Inclusivity and respect

  • Connection over perfection

Why we care about mental health.

Again and again in our own work, we have seen how perinatal education and care focuses only on the physical: how to labour, how to feed your baby, how to heal your body. While those are important, they’re only part of the story. Emotional well-being can make the difference between simply surviving and truly thriving.

We designed Expecting Better to bridge this gap so that you have the tools, knowledge, and support to care for both your mind and your body during this life-changing time.

Feel prepared for the road ahead
and supported every step of the way.
